Thinkers Keys

In room 4 we have been using the thinking keys. The thinking keys are different ways that we can think creativity and help us to problem solve.

So far we have used the 'In Common', 'Question' and 'Reverse' thinking keys. The 'In Common' key is used to see what two different things have in common. The 'Question' key is used to think of different questions that have the same answer and the 'Reverse' key is thinking about actions that you would not do with something. For example you wouldn't use a banana to brush your teeth.

Term 2 is underway...

Inquiring into
For the first 3 weeks of term 2 room 4 are inquiring into New Zealand's role at Gallipoli. We began our inquiry last Monday by exploring how New Zealand became involved in WW1.

We watched a series of animations about the landing at Gallipoli that was told from the ANZAC's perspective as well as the Ottoman's perspective.

Afterwards we discussed the following questions
  • Why did the landing go wrong?
  • What challenges did they face because of where they landed?

We recorded our thoughts about what might have happened differently if the soldiers landed where they had expected to. We also recorded key words under each of the following themes related to Gallipoli: Challenges...Confusions...Bad luck...Solutions. Finally we used what we had learnt to draw a picture of what the landing may have looked like.

Literacy
During our writing sessions we have been creating scripts for fitness video clips that we can use on wet days.

We first of all talked about the steps we would need to undertake in order to create a video clip. We then decided upon the best order to do the steps in.

We have almost finished our fitness video clips so stayed tuned to see the finished product.

ANZAC ceremony

On Friday we commemorated the 100th anniversary of the ANZAC landing at Gallipoli by holding a special ceremony at school.

Members of the New Zealand Air Force spoke at the event and each member of room 4 was given the opportunity to lay a paper poppy next to a cross that recognised a fallen New Zealand soldier.

Fluffy Easter Chickens

In room 4 we make Easter chickens. We made them out of tissue paper, plastic eyes and orange cardboard.

The first step was to scrunch up the tissue paper and glue them on to the cardboard. Next we drew around his hand and drew some legs for our chickens. We stapled these onto the bodies.

HOCKEY SKILLS SESSION

Last week room 4 went to hockey with Craig. First Craig told us tips and rules about hockey. Then he taught us how to dribble a hockey ball.

After that we played this game and if your ball went out of the cones you were out. I got out straight away but lots of people stayed in.

When the game was over we teamed up, girls in one team and boys in another. The girls wanted to be called cats so the girls were called cats and the boys the rats. There were more boys than girls so Alfie had to join the girl's team.

After Craig explained that if he called out 'cats', the cats had to dribble their hockey ball to the other side of the courts without being tagged by the rats. If he called out 'rats', the rats had to dribble their hockey ball to the other side of the courts without being tagged by the cats. If you got tagged nothing happened.

Thanks Craig.

HOW I SAVED THE WORLD
(Recounts)

Agent Rock Star
Tristan.jpg
My name is agent Rock Star I have some awesome gadgets like a laser gun that shoots a green laser that can destroy anything in its path.

When I was at home I heard my spy phone ring it was my mum and dad they were saying that there is an enormous robot that farts sleeping gas! Just as they nearly finished their sentences the phone hung up, the robot had farted on them.

The mission was on I got out my laser gun and my light saber then I put them in a belt. I walked out of my house with my stuff then I saw the robot it was so big I got out my laser gun I loaded it then I shot but it was no use so I had to use my light saber.

I opened the blade then I walked up to the robot, the robot farted then I chopped off its leg the robot yelled and fell.

I was so proud but I still had one more robot to battle its brother it was so big so I chopped off its legs again and it died.

Secret Agent Star
Hailey.jpg
In Paris I (secret agent Star) was walking down the street when I saw evil Mr McMillan paralysing everyone.

I ran behind a building and I was really scared. I put on my belt and felt brave and scared. I heard Mr McMillan talking about his secret evil plan it was mostly about destroying the world.

I jumped behind him and we were face to face. I got out my laser
(laser 5000) but he got his gun out so we fired and he got me and I dropped my lazer.

He came towards me but I got my laser and shot evil Mr McMillan and killed him. The people were saved.

lt was saturday and I was at the zoo looking at the monkeys.

One looked very very very fat but I thought it just ate too much. But the next day it had escaped.

I found out that it was a robot I finally killed it but lots more robot monkeys came and started attacking.

Then I got out my laser and shot them I felt proud that I saved the world.
